Success of any surface painting is controlled by cleanliness of the surface being painted. More the clean surface results more in success of surface painting. Surface cleaning can be done by any of suitable method depending upon nature of surface, content or condition of the surface and climatic conditions that controls corrosiveness. In case pre-existing corrosion, special care requires to be taken. Depending upon nature of surface single or more than one or combination of both surface preparation method are to be used.
Chemical treatment as name suggest surface preparation is carried out by the way of dipping and cleaning the object in chemically active solutions, more commonly acids. The limitation of this method is surface area must be of smaller size and easy for handling.
Flame Cleaning The pre-painted material from the surface is removed by using oxyacetylene flame. With the high temperature.
Hand Tool Cleaning This kind of method includes chipping and scrapping followed by emery paper cleaning and / or brushing. This is time consuming but economically easy method. This method is also used where other methods can not be used effectively.
Mechanical or Power Tool Cleaning After surface preparation by using other methods, left over dust, scales etc. removed by using pneumatic tools such as rotary descalers, needle guns etc.
